  2. What is Real Co. Canada?

    Real Co. Canada is a client-centered practice firm managed by the Toronto District School Board. It provides job search and job retention coaching in a realistic work setting, where participants can practice their professional skills. The firm is modeled after a mid-sized Toronto real estate business.
    Participants are able to gain real experience and practice their skills in the following departments: Accounting/Finance, Sales/Marketing, HR, Administration/Purchasing and IT. (Back to Top)

  3. What do you mean by "Virtual Company"?

    The virtual company concept is an innovative business program, focused on activity-based learning. This concept provides participants with real business experience and supports them to develop personal qualities and attitudes such as leadership, decision-making, problem solving and communication skills in a group environment, working towards a positive outcome.

    A virtual company is a simulated enterprise that is set up and run by its participants with support from employment counsellors and a real sponsor company. Virtual Companies conduct business with other virtual companies in a simulated market economy on a local, national or international basis. The Practice Firm facilitates hands-on experience to all participants in every aspect of business operations. It also strengthens marketing and sales experience through development and implementation of business plans and follow on the subsequent processes once it is implemented. (Back to Top)

  4. What is a Sponsor Company?

    Every Practice Firm has at least a Sponsor. The Sponsor Company acts as a model company lending its expert advice to the Practice Firm on successful business practices. Sponsors may be mentors for advice on marketing plans and sales objectives. Sponsors provide actual materials when needed for Practice Firm business purposes. (Back to Top)

  6. Who is eligible to work for Real Co. Canada?

    Participants must be:
    In possession of a current Return to Work Action Plan – A resident of Canada for less than five years – In possession of a valid Social Insurance Number – Able to speak English at an intermediate-to-advanced level – 18 years of age or older – Motivated to commit to a 8-12 week program.   7. What is a Return to Work Action Plan?

    Your first step to have a Return to Work Action Plan is to visit a local Employment Assessment Centre, which will help you to determine your career goals. Once you have identified your individual goals and employment needs, an employment advisor will develop a realistic Return to Work Action Plan for you. This plan will outline a referral to the relevant intervention necessary for your integration into the labour market. (Back to Top)
